WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?

I am an artist because I believe that images have power. When something I create brings a feeling, memory, joy or inspiration to someone, it means the world to me. Nothing means more to me as an artist than knowing that I have made some sort of positive impact in someone’s or a community’s life.

WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND?

I’ve been doing art my whole life. I was always the kid who carried a sketch book with me whether it was for traveling or I just knew I’d have some down time. I never really thought of art as anything other than a hobby up until recently so I am self taught with a few basic courses from high school. what got me into painting was I actually got sick for a little bit about a year ago and I couldn’t go surfing or do much physical activity and I was going bonkers with boredom. I had some paints lying around and I decided since I couldn’t be in the waves I would try and paint one. I later posted it and I had such positive feedback and I realized how happy my art made people so I decided to keep trying and paint more things I enjoyed and eventually it became a profession.  The world really does work in mysterious ways.

IS THERE AN ARTWORK HERE YOU ARE MOST PROUD OF? WHY?

I think my first wave painting I am the most proud of because it’s what helped cross that confidence barrier in sharing my art. after that I think it is my wave of inspiration painting. I love the positive affect it had on people by having all the inspirational words in the crest of the wave. It became my most popular creation and I feel it really brought a beautiful influence on a lot of people and I love that I was able to do that.

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN A WORK IS FINISHED?

I know it’s done when I take a step back to look at it and there’s nothing that I would like to change. A lot of the times when I’m painting I’m not looking at the painting as a whole and rather focus on small sections of it so i have to often step back to see what my painting actually looks like. The time I take the step back and have a happy sigh of contentment is when I know it’s finished. but there’s always the possibility if it sits for a bit my perspective might change a bit and I’ll rework it and the process starts over again.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU? WHAT INSPIRED THIS PIECE/IDEA?

My biggest inspiration is the ocean and the waves. They’re constantly stuck in my head and I can’t help by try to represent them on canvas. Also the amazing colors that the water reflects during the certain times of the day.

IS THERE AN ELEMENT OF ART YOU ENJOY WORKING WITH MOST? WHY?

Texture and color no doubt. mostly because those 2 elements are what i use most to represent nature and bring it to life. painting water is creating texture through contrasting colors and the same applies when trying to create light reflections.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE KNOWN FOR?

I would like to be known for being able to represent aliveness and vibrancy in my nature scenes. Being able to create a feeling that you would have if you were to be seeing that scene in real life.

IF SOMEONE WANTS TO BUY YOUR WORK OR HIRE YOU, HOW DO THEY REACH YOU?

I can be found on instagram, facebook  and email or through my site.
